The Rising Stars Web Show... Previews in December!
“The whole world’s waiting to be inspired by a story . . . YOURS!”
RisingStar31 Productions is launching an exciting new web show that turns the “lights, camera, action” toward the emerging stars of the literary world. Producer, Pamela Sherrod, says that The Rising Stars will be an entertaining program that’s similar to a virtual reality show, only they’ll produce documentaries that spotlight the lives of new authors.
“It’s actually an interactive, promotional writer’s tool which is partially funded by the participating writers, says Sherrod. Each episode is devoted to the life of a specific writer, and chronicles the unique nature of their trials and aspirations, and most importantly, offers a platform from which their voices can be heard. “It’s an empowering show,” she adds.
Sherrod, who’s also a ghostwriter, learned the crucial need to “exercise one’s voice” from an experience that still haunts her today. She had to confront the commitments she’d made to write the biographies of two people whom she’d lost. One was the late Altovise Davis. Married for twenty years to the Rat Pack star, Sammy Davis, Jr., Altovise had endured many scandalous stories surrounding her marriage, and wanted to finally set the record straight by publishing her side of the story. She died, however, before the two women could write her book. When Sherrod later finished the biography, The Last Chapter in the Life of Mrs. Sammy Davis, Jr., she felt that she’d not only fulfilled Altovise’s wish, but gained a deeper understanding of her own role. Now, she’s committed to facilitating ways to motivate, support and showcase the work of authors who have compelling stories to share.
To help writers develop confidence in their writing and, in some cases, actually “find their voices,” she’s organized a 6-month coaching program to strengthen their writing and motivate them to overcome common obstacles such as writer’s block and doubts about their purpose. “What is your message?” she asks at the first meeting, beginning a relationship that explores the motives, methods and challenges they’ll face. The unique project consists of, both, personal coaching and videotaped interviews, a process in which the author evolves before the camera each month as he or she gets closer to the episode in which they’ll appear.
Sherrod was a news assistant at ABC News during the early 1980’s and helped produce Nightline, World News Tonight with Peter Jennings, and Sunday World News with Sam Donaldson. From this experience, she developed a keen eye for newsworthy stories. When it came to producing her web shows, she wanted to incorporate the format used for news coverage with that which was used for documentaries. She also sought out some of the most gifted professionals in the field. RisingStar31 Productions consists of a talented team of writers and entertainers, and a video production crew that’s headed by an Emmy-Award winning editor.
Recently, the company also released the web show, The Witness to Miracles and Angels, which features the testimonies and books of authors who’ve chronicled true stories of miracles. The program is hosted by Geoffrey Owens who starred as Elvin in The Cosby Show and is currently in Broadway’s new production of Romeo and Juliet, starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad. One of their guests this season is New York Times Best Selling Author, Cecil Murphey.
Sherrod’s long-term vision is to expand their projects and form partnerships with writers, artists and talented professionals to work on collaborations for future films. She believes that the partnership opportunities are endless. “When you work with talented writers, it’s very exciting,” says Sherrod. “You just never know who’s carrying the next Gone with the Wind in their heart.”
